At Maui Academy of Healing Arts, we believe your education should prepare you for more than performing a massage routine or getting through your first few months of work. Our goal is to help you build the knowledge, hands-on skills, professional judgment, and confidence you will continue using throughout your career.
MAHA's Massage Therapy Program is an intensive, small-cohort program designed for students who are ready to make massage education a primary focus.
You will study the science of the human body, develop your hands through extensive practice, learn to think clinically, and prepare for professional practice in the wide range of environments available to massage therapists.

We Teach Massage Therapists
There is a difference between learning how to give a massage and learning how to become a massage therapist. Our instructors are experienced massage therapists and educators. We understand how students learn this work, where new therapists commonly struggle, and what graduates need when they begin working with real clients. At MAHA, you will learn technique, but you will also learn to ask:
What am I feeling beneath my hands?
Why am I choosing this technique?
How does this person's anatomy, movement, health history, or goals affect the session?
When should I adapt what I am doing?
When should I stop, modify, or refer?
These are the questions that help turn technique into professional practice.
We Know School Is Only the First Step
You cannot learn everything about massage therapy in massage school. We don't pretend that you can.
What we can give you is a strong foundation that allows you to continue learning throughout your career. You should leave MAHA prepared to enter the profession, continue developing your skills, pursue advanced education, learn from mentors, and discover the areas of massage therapy that interest you most.
Our goal is not to create a finished therapist.
Our goal is to help you become a capable beginning therapist who knows how to keep growing.
Your Career Does Not Have to Look Like Anyone Else's
Every student arrives at massage school with different strengths, interests, life experiences, and goals.
We respect and embrace that.
Some MAHA graduates may find their place in Maui's resort and spa community. Others may work in wellness centers, multidisciplinary practices, fitness or rehabilitation settings, private practice, or eventually specialize in a particular area of massage therapy. You do not need to know exactly what your career will look like before you begin.
We want to help you build a strong professional foundation, recognize your strengths, explore your interests, and begin creating the massage career that fits you.
We are not trying to turn every student into the same massage therapist. We give you the tools to help you become the best massage therapist you can become. Becoming that therapist is up to you!
How You'll Learn at MAHA
Massage therapy is learned through more than lectures and textbooks. Our program is built around four principles:

Small-cohort instruction. Your instructors know you, observe your work, and have the opportunity to give you meaningful individual feedback.

Integrated learning. Anatomy, kinesiology, massage technique, assessment, pathology, professional practice, and clinical reasoning are connected rather than taught as unrelated subjects.

Clinical reasoning. From the beginning, you will learn to think about the individual client rather than simply repeat the same massage on every body.

Focused feedback and repetition. You develop skilled hands by practicing, receiving feedback, adjusting, and practicing again.

Understand the Body
Massage therapists need more than a list of muscle names.
You will study anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, and other foundational sciences so that you can understand the body you are working with and make safer, more informed choices.
Develop Skilled Hands
You will spend extensive time practicing massage, palpation, positioning, draping, movement, assessment, and technique. You will work with different bodies, not simply memorize one routine.
Develop Professional Judgment
Good massage requires decision-making. You will learn to consider the client's goals, presentation, health history, comfort, response to treatment, and your own professional scope when planning and adapting a session.
Is MAHA Right for You?
MAHA may be a good fit if you are looking for serious professional preparation, enjoy learning through immersive hands-on practice, value individual feedback, and are ready to participate fully in an intensive educational experience. You do not need prior massage experience. You do need curiosity, professionalism, willingness to practice, and a desire to learn how to work thoughtfully with other people. Massage education requires time, practice, concentration, and repetition. During the program, students should expect school to be a major part of their daily lives.
Begin Your Massage Therapy Career on Maui
Our location on Maui is a privilege, not our entire curriculum. MAHA is first and foremost about excellent massage education. Maui gives us an extraordinary place in which to do that work.
